3 Steps for Finding the Perfect Business

Finding the perfect business usually takes a bit of time. Not only do you need to find something that is going to appeal to you and that you know about, but it has to bring the money in each month too. In the world of small business e-commerce, there is plenty of competition, so you are going to have to be prepared to make your own business shine out.

Here are 3 steps for finding the perfect business opportunity:

Finding the Perfect Business Step 1: Brain Storming
Think carefully about what kind of business appeals to you. Ask yourself the following questions:
What are my interests?
What am I good at?
What am I knowledgeable about?

Write the answers down. Just leave them alone for a couple of days and then look at them again. Add or change whatever you want.

Be open minded. You might like to try something different. An example, if you have spent 20 years working in a cake factory and you want to set up your own small business e-commerce, you don't necessarily have to sell cakes, just because you know all about them. However, you need to realize that you will have to do a lot of market research about the item or service. Go for something you know a bit about and you are prepared to learn more about it. The last criteria is very important: you have to be willing to do a lot of research in order to get ahead of the competition.

Finding the Perfect Business Step 2: Research
When you have an idea, you need to check out similar companies offering the same product or service. Look specifically at:
what their pricing is;
what their postage costs;
how many varieties of the item they are selling;
how much they seem to be advertising.
Then ask yourself if you can compete with these companies? If so, you need clear ideas of how your e-business will be better of different. There is more to finding the perfect business than just choosing something and jumping in. You want to think seriously about whether the business will suit you in the future, and whether there will be enough demand from customers to make your business a successful one.

Finding the Perfect Business Step 3: Planning
The Planning Step is about actually realizing your small business e-commerce idea. This step is about the reality: what does it require to have your small business e-commerce company up and running? Think about time, money, people, and knowledge. You can buy an existing business or start your own from scratch. Buying a business requires a lot of money (and the current owners might not tell you the real reason for selling it). If you are going to spend a long time setting up your own small business e-commerce, you need to make sure your business idea is the best one. Starting from scratch will require money too. If you are selling a product, you will need to import, buy or make the product. Make sure you are going to be able to get the product in the future. Think about whether prices will change for it or not. If so, your prices are going to have to reflect that. If you are selling a service, you either need to be skilled in the service or hire people who are.

You don't have to think of a totally new idea to find the perfect business. You do have to pick something you are happy to do and know at least something about. Because of the competition in small business e-commerce, it isn't always easy to keep your company on top. However, if you know your product and the market, it certainly puts you at an advantage.
